WHITE WAVE wraps up our best ever DUMBO Dance Festival ever!
We at WHITE WAVE are extremely proud of the roaring success of our 2023 DUMBO Dance Festival (DDF), and grateful for your support!
We began the evening with Board members' reading the kind proclamations sent by the Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso and Mark Levine, President, Borough of Manhattan. We bestowed our annual WW awards to Danny Gee for her lifetime work supporting dance, and to the late great Jennifer Muller, whose choreography made a lasting impression in the international Dance scene.
WHITE WAVE is elated over the immense success of our recent 2023 DUMBO Dance Festival (DDF). This 22nd DDF was extremely meaningful to us, as it was the 1st return to LIVE after 2 years of Covid-caused Virtual shows, and it marked the 35th Anniversary of the WHITE WAVE Dance Company!
Audiences came out by the hundreds to our 6 programs of national and international Companies from near and far, selected by a jury though a very competitive process, to the stage of the Mark Morris Dance Group. While we did present a number of seasoned mid-career Companies, many of our line-up were promising relative newcomers to the Dance scene, over the 4-day run.
We are especially proud to have had the privilege to host a wide variety of Dancemakers who are non-binary, LGBT+, under-represented POC, and differently-abled. Many of these troupes have overcome limited resources for studio space, costumes, and equipment to create, learn, teach, rehearse, and perform! We will host many such groups and dancers at future Festivals!
We kicked off this DDF with an over-the-top opening-night Gala. After the performance, the enormous stage of the Mark Morris theatre was re-configured into a magnificent party and dinner space, where swarms of Friends and Supporters, old and new, enjoyed mingling and gathering over gourmet food excessive bottles of fine wines, exciting raffles, and stunning artwork!.
Your support is crucial to the creative process. All of the Dancers were encouraged by an enthusiastic response from the crowd. Your financial support, small or large, is indispensable to continue our work during this era of receding governmental funding.
Until our next blow-out Festival, we hope you will attend some of the many events we produce, in addition to award-winning productions of WHITE WAVE's original dance work with commissioned new music.
